Peggy delivered 18 Valentine ♥ themed hats and 25 general hats to Kaiser Walnut Creek on February 1, 2017. The nurses were overly excited because they had run out of hats to give to the babies quite a while ago. They absolutely loved that there were some Valentine ♥ themed hats and told me that they would go to good use. Thank you Karing Knitters for your generous contributions. The nurses reiterated that the patients love the hats that we make.

New grandson for Barbara and hats for Kaiser Antioch

Barbara's daughter just delivered a baby at Kaiser Antioch on 1/30/17. Peggy, Barbara's sister and proud "Grauntie", suggested to her that we donate some of the baby hats we've knitted/loomed and she agreed that it was a great idea.  We donated 25 hats, 13 of which were Valentine themed and the rest were general hats.  The nurses were thrilled because they receive very few hat donations.  Antioch Kaiser delivers 125-135 babies monthly while Kaiser Walnut Creek delivers 350 babies monthly...big difference! Also, pictured below is baby Dax and older brother Blake wearing matching hats knitted by Auntie Peggy

On December 20, 2016, seven regular members of the "Karing Knitters" group, Peggy Fleming, Barbara Heimowitz, Harriet Skelly, Jan Barnes, Lina Terferi, Rita Weikal, and Debbie Schriber, took BART to San Francisco and donated 83 scarves and 138 hats to St. Anthony's.  This was our 5th year knitting scarves and hats for the homeless living in San Francisco.
The "Karing Knitters" group began 6 years ago with three members from Danville and two members living in Castro Valley.  The group has grown and changed over the years and we now have two groups of knitters who meet twice monthly in Danville and in Castro Valley.  A huge thanks go to the eleven regular members, Phyllis Clark, Melanie Gutterson, Marcelle Roise, and Ann Cygielman and the knitters mentioned above plus some knitters from the Alamo Women's Club; Susan Klein, Kathy Berger, Annette Cohn, Sandi McKae, plus friends of friends in the knitting groups who donate occasionally or one time only: Ruth Yu, Judy Ginsburg, Maria Salcedo, Jean Yang.

Scarves for Shelter women

One of our knitters, Barbara, is a member of Delta Kappa Gamma. It is an organization of retired and active teachers. We contributed 30 scarves to bags made for women in a shelter in Hayward. They also got toiletries, tissues and other special gifts as part of their holiday donation. They were very grateful for our contributions.

Headbands for foster girls

Marcelle,

We can't thank you enough for making the beautiful knitted/crocheted headbands for the foster girls. I gave them their new headbands this evening and they absolutely love them. (Their faces are covered because of privacy issues). Thank you so much again for spending the time making them.

Holiday Hat deliverys

Peggy was a busy gal delivering hats
for this holiday season:

She delivered 70 baby hats to Kaiser Maternity on Sunday,
Nov. 20th.  There were 11-Thanksgiving, 22-Christmas, 6-Chanukah, 16-girls, and 15-boys.The 6 nurses on duty were totally thrilled to receive the holiday hats and couldn't wait to distribute them.  Peggy was excited to see 3 of our hats on display at the nurses' counter which they'll use for Thanksgiving since they were all orange.  The nurses again reiterated how appreciative the new parents are to receive these keepsakes.

On Nov. 21st, she delivered 26 hats all loomed by Melanie,  for Youth Homes foster kids living in 4 group homes. They were thrilled to receive them and loved the color combinations. Pictured here are two staff members that liked the hats so well that they wanted to each keep one for themselves!!

Thank you Karing Knitters for your
continued donations!!
