Donations to St. Anthony's

This was our 8th year donating to the knitted scarf and hat drive at St. Anthony's in San Francisco. Eight of us brought in 83 knitted hats and 45 knitted scarves to donate to the homeless, making a total of 128 pieces.  We were also taken on a tour of the dining room (thank you Andrew) and clothes store (thank you David). We treated ourselves to lunch after our drop-off and had a lot of fun knowing we were doing our part in helping keep the homeless warm during these cold winter months.

Castro Valley karing knitters donated 100 scarves and hats

Our Castro Valley karing knitters
donated 100 scarves and hats to low income families in Hayward. It was fun to see them “shop” for their perfect choice and then wear it as they picked up their food donations. These should help keep them warm during these cold days.

A few announcements to catch up on:

It has been awhile, we have a few announcements to catch up on:

While our group was knitting in a local cafe, a young security guard stopped by and we told him about our charity knitting. His eyes lit up and he asked if we had any adult hats for him. We gave him one and we could tell that he’d wear it and cherish it! He was so grateful and appreciative!

Two members of the knitting group knitted/crocheted 8 beautiful hat and scarf sets for Youth Homes Foster kids! They loved them and had fun deciding which set looked best on them. Thank you on behalf of the foster girls!!

Forty adult hats were given to one of the members on November 20, 2018 to distribute to Cherryland families in Hayward at Christmastime. We’re sure that the recipients will love them!!

One of our very talented knitter/crocheter made 12 snowman hats for Kaiser Maternity. These are definitely keepsakes for the infants. They were delivered along with 13 Chanukah hats and 7 general hats on December 3, 2018.

Delivered 149 baby hats!

We delivered 126 baby hats +23 Fourth of July themed hats to Kaiser Walnut Creek during the night shift on July 25, 2018. Prior to delivering the hats we went into the waiting room and one of the women there was waiting for twins to be born so she selected a pink hat for one and a blue crocheted hat for the other - she was thrilled! The other family chose a hat for their new baby boy and we’re also appreciative. Two adorable little girls were waiting for their brother to be born and they each selected a hat and were so happy. They put their hats in their separate purses to bring to their new baby brother. The nurses were also very complementary about the hats and said how much they appreciated receiving them. Thank you Karing Knitters for your continual donations.

A Wonderful Surprise

While knitting on 6/5/18, we saw a father with his 6 month old son sitting in the cafe where we regularly meet. He noticed we were knitting and we asked him if his baby was born at Kaiser WC, and coincidentally he was plus he received one of our cute baby hats!! He then told me that he was sure we didn’t realize how powerful it was to receive the hat. “We’re all so exhausted and out of it after going through the birthing process and to receive a baby hat brings us back to reality, allows us to return to reality and move forward”. He couldn’t thank us enough and wanted us to know how deeply appreciated we are!

We Have Been Busy Busy Busy

On January 2, 2017, Ann, one of the Karing Knitters, told us the sad news that her friend was going to have to undergo chemo and asked if we would be interested in donating chemo hats.  We gave her 3 to take to the oncology center and may knit more in the future.

AWC members Mary Ann, and Sandi who also contribute to the Karing Knitters' charities, knitted baby hats for the Kempel quintuplets, 3 boys and 2 girls  born at Kaiser Walnut Creek on 1/11/18.  We also donated two larger hats for the older sisters, 18 months, and 3 years old.

We also donated an additional 32 general baby hats to some very happy maternity nurses.
