St. Anthony's Delivery

On December 14th we delivered 100 hats and 48 scarves to St. Anthony's in San Francisco. We were delighted to be given a tour of the entire facility.  We saw their computer training area, their hospital including children's wing, and clothing service, as well as their very famous kitchen.  Our first contribution was to a gentleman in need on our Bart train over to the city.
Much to our delight, St. Anthony's even honored us by posting our picture and a short article on their own Facebook page.

Melanie & Shelter Inc.

Melanie, one of the Karing Knitters donated a few loomed hats to Shelter Inc., a non-profit agency that helps low income families and others with major life challenges in Contra Costa County  find housing, jobs, other needed services. Kudos to Melanie for adding another charity to our list donation sites.

Delta Kappa Gamma

This year, for the Holidays,  we wanted to share our knitted and loomed hats with a variety of organizations. One of our knitters, Barbara, is a member of Delta Kappa Gamma, an organization of retired and active teachers. One of their causes is to donate to Ruby's Place, a women's shelter in Hayward. We included 50 hats and 20 scarves in their gift bags. Spreading the wealth, makes us all happy that we can contribute and make  lives happier, during this time of need.

More Holiday Deliveries

Last night, Dec. 15, 2015, Peggy delivered 10 beanies to the Youth Homes After Care Youth at their Christmas Party, (last two pictures)  One girl had such a tough time deciding which hat to take that she asked if she could keep both..a huge compliment to Melanie! The youth were very grateful for the donation.

Peggy and Melanie delivered 31 loomed hats (mostly made by Melanie) on Dec. 16th  to two Youth Homes Residential facilities plus gave 7 beanies to the ladies in charge of the kids living in foster families (1st picture below).  They were all thrilled with their gifts and even the staff members wanted to keep one for themselves too!

Christmas Hat/Chanukah Hat Delivery

On Dec. 7th, just in time for the beginning of Chanukah, Peggy delivered 3 Chanukah themed hats and 15 Christmas hats to Kaiser maternity, Walnut Creek.  The nurses were elated and promised to save the Christmas hats for Dec. 24th and 25th.  They are always so grateful for our donations since we are the only group that  knits for them. We know that the babies will feel so festive in the beanies we knitted for them.

Sunday, November 1, 2015

Peggy delivered 35 baby hats to Kaiser Maternity on 10/30/15, just in time for the Halloween babies.  Ten of the hats were Halloween themed and the rest were mixed.  The nurses were super appreciative of the donation and commented how kind it was for all of us to knit/loom hats for the babies.

Easter Hat Delivery

Peggy delivered 55 baby hats, some Easter themed,  to Kaiser Walnut Creek on Saturday,  4/4/15.  We usually deliver the hats weekdays so there was a different staff of nurses this time and they were so happy to meet at least one member of the Karing Knitters group.  They reiterated how grateful they and the new moms are to receive our generous donations.  What made this delivery even more special was that there were 10 couples touring the Maternity floor and the women were VERY Pregnant...a fun site to see.
Thank you Karing  Knitters for your charitable time and donations!

You Can Knit Anywhere!

Tina likes to make loom hats while walking on the treadmill at her gym. She says it makes the time go faster and keeps her focused. This proves that you can be creative when knitting while even getting some exercise. The knitting grandmother's in the rocking chairs are a sign of the past!

St Patrick's Day Hat Delivery

In Peggy's own words:
I had a lot of fun delivering the hats to Kaiser today, 3/13/15.  The nurses were totally thrilled with the donation. They said to be sure to thank all of the crocheters (I didn't correct the nurse who made the statement about the crocheters, that the hats were knitted) for making the hats for the babies. They were truly appreciative. A few of the nurses who were standing at the front desk immediately started looking through the bag of donations and we're so happy to see all the cute hats.

Valentine Visit To Kaiser Hospital

On 2/12/15, Anne, Barbara, and Peggy delivered 94 baby hats to Kaiser Maternity.  As usual, the nurses were delighted with our donations and immediately looked through the bags to find the perfect hat for the baby(s) they had helped deliver.  We pointed out to them that we had many Valentine themed hats plus some general ones and several in duplicate or triplicate for the twins and triplets...they loved that!  We went to the Chemo Department afterwards and Barbara gave the 9 hats she made to the Staff who was very appreciative.  We noticed that there was a bulletin board signed by cancer survivors so attached is a sample of the messages that the patients left.
