A Wonderful Thank You

We received a very heartfelt thank you e-card from Kathy, the chemo patient we donated items to.  She delivered them to the Diablo Oncology Center.  Her doctor was so impressed and elated.  She had never heard of a port pillow and selected a few for her  patients.  She and the nurses were very pleased that we donated chemo hats since they had run out of them, plus the drainage bags were much appreciated.  Kathy wrote, "thank you all for your kindness.  You all are very special people in the world and I was fortunate to have met you".

Today, Kathy, a Breast Cancer patient, visited the Karing Knitters and was so thrilled to receive 10 chemo hats, 15 drainage bags and port pillows that she will bring to the Diablo Valley Oncology Center in Pleasant Hill.  She chose a chemo hat that she liked for herself made by Melanie and a port pillow made by Peggy.  She loved all of the fun and colorful fabrics we used.  Barbara, Peggy, and Jean made the drainage bags and port pillows and the chemo hats were knitted and loomed by Jan, Melanie, Peggy, and Barbara.

Happy Valentines and More

We delivered 80 hats on February 11, 2016 to some very happy Kaiser maternity nurses. When I told them there were 80 hats in the bag and there were 25 Valentine themed ones they were thrilled. They loved the heart motif on some of the hats and they also like the fact that we included some preemie hats. All the nurses were very thankful and appreciative of our donation. Thank you new members,  Sandy and Annette for your contributions to this month's  hat delivery.

We Are So Proud...

A member of our group, Barbara made 5 seat belt cushions for chemo patients. They are designed to connect to the seat belt to cushion the area where someone has an implanted port.

I met with Diane today for coffee.  She gave me this hat letting me know that a group of you ladies make them for cancer patients.  How wonderful!  Thank you so much for your thoughtfulness.  The hat fits great.  I really appreciate the caring you have put into this gesture.

St. Anthony's Delivery

On December 14th we delivered 100 hats and 48 scarves to St. Anthony's in San Francisco. We were delighted to be given a tour of the entire facility.  We saw their computer training area, their hospital including children's wing, and clothing service, as well as their very famous kitchen.  Our first contribution was to a gentleman in need on our Bart train over to the city. 
Much to our delight, St. Anthony's even honored us by posting our picture and a short article on their own Facebook page.

Melanie & Shelter Inc.

Melanie, one of the Karing Knitters donated a few loomed hats to Shelter Inc., a non-profit agency that helps low income families and others with major life challenges in Contra Costa County  find housing, jobs, other needed services. Kudos to Melanie for adding another charity to our list donation sites.

Delta Kappa Gamma

This year, for the Holidays,  we wanted to share our knitted and loomed hats with a variety of organizations. One of our knitters, Barbara, is a member of Delta Kappa Gamma, an organization of retired and active teachers. One of their causes is to donate to Ruby's Place, a women's shelter in Hayward. We included 50 hats and 20 scarves in their gift bags. Spreading the wealth, makes us all happy that we can contribute and make  lives happier, during this time of need.
