We are thankful

As Thanksgiving approaches, our knitting group is thankful for our latest donation of yarn. We are working on scarves and hats for St. Anthony's Foundation and this extra yarn will be put to good use!

On Oct. 25th, our knitting group delivered 72 baby hats (20 of which were orange and black and could be used for Halloween or for Giant's fans).  The nurses were very appreciative of our donations.

We were lucky enough to see a grandmother with her newborn, (only 5 pounds),  grandson, Scott, wheel him in the hallway in his bed. Grandma is a BIG Giant's fan and chose an orange and black hat for him to wear home from the hospital....She thanked us profusely.

More than knitting

Our knitting group, took a short break from knitting and donated school supplies to 130 low income kids in Hayward the day before school started. The kids were weighted down with binder paper, pens, pencils, rulers, binders, pencil boxes, glue sticks and other supplies. A local group, FESCO, generously donated new backpacks. Smiles and giggles were abundant!

Our Yarn Angel

Our knitting group was so fortunate to receive another generous donation of yarn from an anonymous donor. The colorful pastel sparkle yarns will be perfect for baby hats that we make for newborns, at our local hospitals.

Peggy has been busy!

Peggy found out that the San Francisco Kaiser Volunteers wanted to learn how to loom so that they could make baby hats for the Maternity Unit. She spent 2 hours teaching 7 volunteers how to loom. They were so excited and appreciative that she taught them and will meet weekly to work on the hats.

Peggy recently visited the Baltic Countries and happened upon the one and only knitting shop, Menita, in Helsinki, Finland.  The yarn prices were very high but the selection was beautiful and irresistible!

On July 3, 2012, Anne, Barbara, and Peggy delivered 79 Baby Hats to Kaiser Walnut Creek.  Nineteen of the baby hats were made for the soon to be 4th of July babies and the rest were general hats.  The nurses were thrilled and asked us about our "organization" and for our names.  They said that the new parents are always so appreciative of the handmade hats.

We heard that Kaiser, San Francisco was also in need of baby hats.  We donated 10 hats to their maternity department.  Some of the Karing Knitters are planning to go to Kaiser to teach some of their volunteers how to loom so that they can make hats to donate too.

Barbara, Peggy, and Jennifer collectively made 23 reversible fabric chemo hats.  Anne made 24(fantastic)and Peggy made 35 drainage bags. The Chemo department was trulygrateful for the donation.  One of the nurses, a cancer survivor, saidthat the patients will be so thankful to receive such useful and attractive aids.  They asked us for our name/organization so we gave them our blog site and email address.
